Horst Gasthaus
My mother and I had dinner at Horst Gasthaus this weekend (Saturday). Another locally owned and operated restaurant just blocks from Ocean Creek Resort.
If you enjoy German food, or want to try it, Horst Gasthaus is highly recommended. Mom and I did not have reservations, I recommend securing reservations as early as possible. Especially in high season or on a weekend that has car shows and St. Patrick’s day events. The wait was supposed to be long, but the staff took a quick look at the availability and got us seated at a bar table almost immediately. They got us drinks for the few minutes we had to wait, got a second round of drinks before happy hour expired. We had 2 servers waiting on us.
We ordered from the happy hour menu. I ordered the 2 sausage combo. Two different styles of sausage served over Sauerkraut, which was fantastic. I also ordered their German potato salad herby and the tang I expect from german potato salad. I also ordered cucumber salad which as a nice tang and another fantastic side. Fresh rye bread as well.
My mom ordered a Pork Chop, the Spätzle and Cucumber salad. Pasta being one thing almost every nation has in their repertoire, the Spätzle is very well done and another favorite of my family.
The service here is always impeccable but they went above and beyond to make sure we got seated quickly, got the Happy hour deals, had the drinks we wanted and even though Happy hour was not the original goal of coming here, waited on us like we were the only people in the restaurant.
Added bonus they usually have traditional German music, live most weekends, a great accordion player. Yes accordion can sound great.
Happy hour from 4pm to 6 pm. Follow the on facebook at Horst Gasthaus
Snooky’s on the water
We stopped by Snooky’s on the water this weekend and enjoyed dinner with Mom.
Food was great service was awesome. We ordered Oysters Rockefeller, Calamari, a wedge salad as appetizers. The Oysters were delicious, with so much flavor the hollandaise sauce on them made the whole thing creamy and delicious. The Calamari was perfectly fired and Mom really enjoyed the pineapple cilantro salsa. The Wedge salad is huge and comes with a lot of flavor.
For dinner we ordered Shrimp and Grits - a nice smokey flavor from the andouille sausage they use, creamy cheesy and a nice helping of shrimp. The lunch portion was more than enough since we had so many appetizers. We also got the fresh catch bites, which were Grouper this trip. Delicious, perfectly fried and they come with a delicious remoulade for dipping. The last dish we had was baby clams which we ordered over pasta to make it an entree. The white wine garlic herb sauce was the highlight of this dish and highly recommended.
Snooky’s offer lunch, dinner and a raw bar. Specialty cocktails, beer and wine. They also have a great happy hour menu and focus on great fresh seafood, with a great view of the marina and the Intracoastal Waterway.
